I always thought it was a good match for academia (particularly philosophy, theology, & literary criticism, where detailed commentary on extended portions of previous work is common). When I worked on Xanadu, we were tentatively planning to target paralegals for our user base, since their work similarly involves trudging through a large corpus of previous work & identifying similarity & relevance.
