That’s part of it. But, having the history & associations of a text in-line (rather than using jump links where you switch windows to see a supposedly-’related’ page, or switching to the ‘history tab’ to see edit history) helps a lot too.

As an example of how information about history could be kept in-line (say, on a wiki), consider color-coding pieces of text based on how frequently they changed in the past. A single page might have many passages with different levels of confidence and controversy, & we currently don’t encode that in a way that a casual reader can recognize.
