Today we made some progress on setting up a new (secondary) server for #socialcoop, and I started learning [[ansible]]: git.coop/social.coop/tech/oper

Pretty fun! I'm glad I was finally able to make some time.

#socialcoop wdyt about the update to Mastodon v4 overall?

My take: some people have noticed unexpected UI changes (I myself don't like the new 'create account' flow too much for example), but overall it seems like an improvement and I'm happy we're now finally up to date and tracking upstream.

Trying out [[bonfire]] while I go through #socialcoop registrations (I'm oncall for the community working group this week) :)

#socialcoop *could* be in joinmastodon.org/servers if we want to. I think we would need to do two things:

1. Sign the [[mastodon covenant]], being joinmastodon.org/covenant, which looks reasonable.
2. Relax registrations to 'invite only', as discussed earlier in loomio.com/d/zoWFc7mR/relax-in.

What do you think?

(I saw some instance statistics the other day and I'm an outlier post count wise in #socialcoop even though I only joined in August 2020.)

By default I plan to review registrations and the moderation queue daily.

Hi #socialcoop!

As announced last week, the [[Tech Working Group]] is about to bring down the instance for maintenance for a few hours.

We will do a restore exercise in a new server, and might migrate to that new hardware tonight. If we don't get that far, we will learn something from the process which will inform future practices :)

#socialcoop the instance will undergo micro-maintenance for a scheduled update. Wish us luck ;)

@3wordchant @ntnsndr in general I just want to try to think first, as a community, of the large number of *people* who are in [[threads]] because that's where they friends are, for example -- and how to help them onboard to the #Fediverse as well as we can!

I would rather their first contact is with friendly open people and groups like those at #socialcoop

Hi all! We might upgrade to Mastodon 4.3 tonight, in which case we'll have some short downtime. We'll post here after the fact.
